Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a three-day visit to the United States, engaged in a productive round table meeting with leading American innovators and technology industry leaders in New York. The discussion centered around India’s potential for innovation, particularly in biotechnology, semiconductors, and electronics. Notable attendees included Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, Arvind Krishna, the CEO of IBM, and Noubar Afeyan, the chairman of Moderna.
After the discussions, PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to share, “Had a fruitful round table with tech CEOs in New York, discussing aspects relating to technology, innovation, and more. Also highlighted the strides made by India in this field. I am glad to see immense optimism towards India.”
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal echoed the sentiment on X, saying, “PM emphasized India’s growth prospects and discussed initiatives to foster collaboration and innovation across diverse sectors.”
The primary goal of this meeting, organized by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), was to explore potential areas of collaboration, especially in emerging sectors like artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, quantum computing, and biotechnology.
This meeting followed PM Modi’s bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden in Delaware, where the two leaders praised ongoing efforts to strengthen the semiconductor supply chain. The newly established GlobalFoundries’ (GF) Kolkata Power Centre, which aims to enhance semiconductor research and development, was also mentioned.
A fact sheet released by the White House highlighted that both nations agreed on the importance of continuous collaboration to develop advanced technologies, including AI and advanced semiconductor processors.
Before the round table, PM Modi also addressed a large gathering of the Indian-American community in Long Island, New York.
On the third and final day of his visit, PM Modi will address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
