On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi demanded clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding Kangana Ranaut’s recent proposal to reinstate the repealed farm laws. Gandhi warned that if these laws were revived, the entire INDIA alliance would stand against the government.
Taking to X, Gandhi wrote, “The BJP keeps testing ideas. They ask someone to present an idea to the public and then observe the reaction. This is exactly what happened when one of their MPs talked about reviving the farmer laws. Modi Ji, please clarify whether you are against this or if you are up to mischief again.”
He continued, “Will those farm laws be revived or not? If they are, I guarantee that the entire INDIA alliance will stand against you. 700 people were martyred; we need to remember and respect them. Modi Ji did not allow even two minutes of silence for them. We will never forget this. Thank you.”
Gandhi also questioned who is making government policies. “Who is deciding the government’s policy? A BJP MP or Prime Minister Modi? Even after the martyrdom of more than 700 farmers, especially the farmers of Haryana and Punjab, the BJP people are not satisfied,” he wrote.
“INDIA will not allow any conspiracy of the BJP against our farmers to succeed – If any step is taken to harm the farmers, Modi ji will have to apologize again,” Rahul Gandhi stated.
The actor-turned-politician and BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut, stirred controversy after suggesting that the three farm reform laws, which were scrapped following farmers’ protests, should be brought back. “I know this statement could be controversial, but the three farm laws should be brought back. Farmers should themselves demand it. Farmers are a pillar of strength in the nation’s development. I want to appeal to them to demand the laws back for their own good,” Kangana stated.
In response, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia clarified that Ranaut’s comments are a “personal statement” and do not represent the party’s stance on the farm bills. Earlier in the day, Kangana also offered a public apology, stating, “My remark has disappointed several people. I need to remind myself that I am no longer just an actor; I am a politician too, and my opinions should not be personal, but a reflection of the party.”
As expected, the remarks triggered a political uproar, forcing the BJP to distance itself from them and issue a clarification.
