Hemant Soren Jabs BJP Over Alleged MLA Buying

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren delivered a sharp critique of the BJP on Sunday, accusing the party of using monetary power to break up opposition MLAs. His statement comes amid rising speculation that Champai Soren, a close aide and Jharkhand minister, might be considering a switch to the BJP.

Soren, speaking at a public rally, remarked, “They are busy breaking homes and dismantling political parties. One day they buy this MLA, the next day they buy another. Money is such a thing that it doesn’t take long for leaders to switch sides, but it’s alright. Our INDIA coalition government has been standing strong with the people since 2019.”

This pointed remark is widely interpreted as a reference to the ongoing rumors about Champai Soren’s potential defection to the BJP. Champai Soren, who has been closely associated with Hemant Soren and his family, is reportedly discontented after being removed from the post of Jharkhand Chief Minister to make way for Hemant Soren, who resumed office after securing bail in a land grab case in July.

In a recent tweet, Champai Soren shared his emotional response to being asked to step down. “The right to call a meeting of the legislative party lies with the Chief Minister, but I was not even told the agenda of the meeting. During the meeting, I was asked to resign. I was surprised, but I had no desire for power, so I immediately resigned, but my heart was emotional due to the injury to my self-respect,” he wrote on X.

Champai Soren, who is currently serving as the water resources minister of Jharkhand, took over as Chief Minister after Hemant Soren’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31. However, he stepped down from the role on July 3.

Amid the swirling rumors, Champai Soren arrived in Delhi but refuted any claims of defecting to the BJP. “I have come here for my personal work. Abhi hum jahan par hain vahi par hain (I am here only),” he told reporters.

HEMANT SOREN ON JHARKHAND ELECTIONS

In his rally, Hemant Soren also accused the BJP of creating divisions within communities to secure electoral victories. “We dare them to hold elections today. By tomorrow, they will have to pack up and leave for Gujarat. These people bring individuals from Gujarat, Assam, and Maharashtra to spread poison among tribal, Dalit, backward, and minority communities, pitting them against each other,” he asserted.

Soren, who recently spent five months in jail, further claimed that the BJP controls the election schedule in the country. “The election bell is about to ring in the state soon, but its timing is in the hands of our opponents, the BJP. The Election Commission is no longer a constitutional institution but has become an extension of the BJP,” he added.
