Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for Kazan, Russia, to attend the 16th BRICS Summit. This visit comes at a critical time, with global instability such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Middle East crisis dominating the global agenda. Modi’s primary aim is to participate in discussions on key global development and security issues, particularly focusing on economic cooperation, multilateral reforms, and cultural exchanges.
Modi is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin for bilateral talks. There is also a possibility of meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping. Modi emphasized that “India values close cooperation within BRICS, which has emerged as an important platform for dialogue on global developmental issues.”
India’s Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, reiterated India’s commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, stating, “India firmly believes that concerned parties must engage in dialogue to resolve conflicts.” The summit also aims to strengthen the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” between India and Russia, as noted by Modi.
Ahead of the summit, a diplomatic breakthrough occurred between India and China, with both nations agreeing to resume patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, marking a significant improvement in bilateral relations.
