Aakhir Tak – In Depth
A major breakthrough has occurred between India and China, with an agreement to resume patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), leading to disengagement. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced on Monday that this decision resulted from discussions over the past several weeks. He stated, “An agreement has been reached regarding patrolling arrangements along the India-China border area, and this is leading to disengagement.”
This critical announcement was made just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia for the 16th BRICS Summit. When asked about a potential bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Misri remarked, “In recent weeks, diplomatic and military discussions between India and China have been ongoing. We are still coordinating the timing and details for any bilateral engagements.”
The situation along the LAC has remained tense since the violent clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley in June 2020. This new agreement could be a significant step toward normalizing relations between the two countries.
