Arvind Kejriwal responds to Donald Trump’s energy cost reduction promise.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal referenced a pledge made by former US President Donald Trump to highlight that there is nothing wrong with offering free services. Trump stated at the Detroit Economic Club that if elected, he would cut electricity costs by half within a year. He tweeted, “I will cut the price of ENERGY and ELECTRICITY in HALF within 12 months. We will seriously expedite our environmental approvals and quickly double our electricity capacity. This will DRIVE DOWN INFLATION and make AMERICA and MICHIGAN the best place on earth to build a factory.”
Kejriwal retweeted Trump’s message, writing, “Trump has announced that he will reduce electricity rates by half. Free ki revri reach US.” This comment came after Kejriwal challenged Prime Minister Modi during a public meeting on October 6, where he stated he would campaign for the BJP if Modi implemented free electricity in all 22 states governed by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Kejriwal criticized the BJP’s “double engine” governments, alleging they are failing across the country. He asserted, “The people of the country have understood that a double-engine government means inflation, unemployment, and corruption.” The former Delhi Chief Minister has been promoting subsidized services in the national capital, including free electricity, water, education, and healthcare, as his “six revris” for the people. He warned that if the BJP comes to power in the Delhi Assembly elections, these free services would be discontinued.
Kejriwal’s approach has stirred controversy, with BJP leaders accusing him of fostering a “revdi culture” for electoral gains. However, AAP argues that these policies are in favor of the poor and part of a broader welfare agenda.
