Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Indian envoy Sanjay Kumar Verma, who was recently recalled to New Delhi, stated that pro-Khalistan elements have made significant inroads into Canadian law enforcement, including their defense forces, and even into the country’s Parliament.
This statement comes after Canada implicated Verma and several other Indian diplomats in the murder investigation of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Following the accusations, India dismissed the allegations and recalled Verma and five other diplomats from Ottawa while expelling six Canadian diplomats from India.
Verma highlighted the influence of Khalistani elements in Canada, noting that their presence has enabled them to push an agenda that challenges India’s territorial integrity. He expressed disappointment that several Canadian parliamentarians have publicly voiced opinions against India’s sovereignty, expecting instead that they would support the importance of territorial integrity as fellow democrats.
In addressing why Canadian authorities have not taken strong action against the Khalistanis, Verma pointed to the complex political landscape in Canada, where political leaders rely on the support of diaspora communities, often incorporating anti-India views into foreign policy to secure electoral victories.
Additionally, Verma noted that while many Indian immigrants in Canada live peacefully, Khalistani groups are often the loudest, gaining attention in Canadian politics, even though the majority prefer to focus on their work and lives.
