Aakhir Tak – In Depth
North Korean artillery units have been ordered to be ready to fire amid escalating tensions over drones. North Korea accused South Korea of sending drones into Pyongyang at night this week and last, according to state media reports on Sunday.
Some defectors and activists in South Korea fly aid parcels into the North, dropping leaflets critical of leader Kim Jong Un. North Korea has blamed the South Korean military for this practice. In retaliation, it has been sending balloons filled with trash into the South.
The North Korean state news agency KCNA quoted a defense ministry spokesperson, stating that Pyongyang sees a high likelihood of more drones flying over the capital. The military has been instructed to prepare for all scenarios, including potential conflict.
On Friday, North Korea reiterated its accusation against South Korea for sending drones into Pyongyang, asserting that this intrusion necessitates retaliatory action. Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, warned Seoul of a “horrible disaster.”
She emphasized that the blame would lie with the South Korean military if it failed to identify drones sent by a non-governmental organization crossing the border. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff stated they could not confirm the North’s accusations.
