Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s nomination for the Wayanad bypoll has stirred controversy with the BJP questioning her declared assets. The BJP alleges discrepancies in her and her husband Robert Vadra’s wealth declarations, raising concerns over transparency and legality.
Priyanka’s affidavit reveals assets worth Rs 12 crore, with Rs 4.24 crore in movable assets and Rs 7.74 crore in immovable properties. Her assets include gold, bank deposits, mutual funds, and property in Delhi and Shimla. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia described the declaration as a “confession of corruption,” questioning the transparency of the asset details.
The BJP also raised concerns about Vadra’s declared wealth, which includes Rs 37.9 crore in movable and Rs 27.64 crore in immovable assets. Vadra faces tax demands totaling Rs 75 crore, pending appeals. BJP claims that the actual value of Priyanka’s Shimla property may be higher, suggesting underreported wealth.
The Congress has dismissed these claims as political slander. Spokesperson Pranav Jha argued that the BJP is using such tactics to distract from pressing issues. Vadra stated that he is willing to cooperate with any investigation, asserting his financial dealings are above board.
