During the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, a significant meeting took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. In this meeting, PM Modi warmly welcomed the India-China border agreement and stated that “peace and stability at the border should be our priority.”

Prime Minister Modi further emphasized that “mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity” should be the foundation of India-China relations. He highlighted that after five years, the two countries’ leaders are holding a formal meeting, which could give new direction to India-China ties. Modi also underscored that the relationship between India and China is crucial not only for their people but also for global peace, stability, and progress.

In a statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that the discussions between PM Modi and Xi Jinping centered on improving the situation along their shared border and stabilizing bilateral relations. Both leaders committed to making full use of existing diplomatic channels and agreed to future meetings at the Foreign Ministers’ level to resolve issues and enhance cooperation.
