Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Upon taking his oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir for the second time, Omar Abdullah wasted no time in making his first public-interest decision. He instructed the police to stop halting traffic for his convoy and emphasized the importance of minimizing public inconvenience. This order came with the additional instruction to refrain from any aggressive actions such as waving sticks or using loud sirens, which could disturb the public.
Omar Abdullah shared this decision via a tweet, stressing that his leadership would prioritize the welfare of the people. His actions reflect a people-first approach, urging his ministers to follow the same policy and avoid unnecessary road blockages during their movements. This directive stands in line with Abdullah’s earlier term as Chief Minister, when he had implemented similar reforms to ensure that his convoy adhered to traffic signals and did not disrupt daily public life.
Abdullah’s swearing-in marked the formation of Jammu and Kashmir’s first elected government in six years. Joining him in the government is Surinder Singh Choudhary, who was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister, representing Jammu. The Congress party, however, opted to stay out of the new cabinet for now, as it continues its demand for statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
