Nasrallah Suffocated to Death in Secret Bunker
Hassan Nasrallah, the chief of Hezbollah, died on September 27 during a massive Israeli airstrike that targeted the militant group’s headquarters in Beirut. According to Israeli Channel 12, Nasrallah suffocated to death from toxic fumes that leaked into his secret bunker following the airstrike.
The report states that Nasrallah’s bunker collapsed due to the airstrike, causing the 64-year-old leader to “die in agony.” Breathing inside the bunker became impossible as it was filled with toxic fumes and heavy smoke resulting from the explosions triggered by the dropping of 80 tonnes of bunker-buster bombs on his hideout.
Recent media reports also suggested that when Nasrallah’s body was recovered, it showed no external injuries. Sources from Reuters indicated that the absence of external injuries likely meant he died from blunt force trauma.
The Lebanese militant group has not commented on the cause of Nasrallah’s death. His death has intensified cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, which have escalated since the outbreak of war with Hamas on October 7, 2023.
Last month, thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members exploded, killing nearly 40 people and injuring over 3,000. More than 1,000 people have died in Lebanon amid the recent escalation, with up to a million likely displaced.
On Tuesday, the Israeli military announced the start of “limited” ground raids in Lebanon against Hezbollah targets and infrastructure that pose an “immediate threat to Israeli communities.”
