Aakhir Tak – In Depth
With the nomination deadline nearing for the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) has not yet finalized candidates for 20 of the 288 assembly seats. A tug-of-war continues among Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar), delaying the final seat distribution.
Sources say Congress is keen on three Mumbai seats – Versova, Byculla, and Wadala – while Shiv Sena (UBT) has already declared its candidates for these. Instead, Shiv Sena (UBT) has offered Borivali and Mulund seats.
Congress state leader Ramesh Chennithala reportedly urged Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Sanjay Raut and Milind Narvekar to consider a “friendly fight” if the seats aren’t reallocated. Meanwhile, the Mahayuti alliance has released candidates for 281 seats, with BJP contesting 146, Shiv Sena 78, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP 51 seats.
The Maharashtra assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with vote counting on November 23.
