Tragic Lightning Strike Claims Lives of Three Young Men

In a devastating incident in Makhdumpur, a village in the Jehanabad district of Bihar, a lightning strike resulted in the deaths of three young men. The incident occurred on Wednesday and caused widespread panic throughout the village. The deceased individuals were Chandan Kumar, aged 16, son of Surendra Das; Gopal Manjhi, aged 16, son of Chandrauli Manjhi; and Pawan Manjhi, aged 17, son of Dinesh Manjhi.

How the Tragedy Unfolded

The three young men were working in the fields for rice transplantation when a sudden downpour forced them to seek shelter under a tree. While waiting for the rain to subside, they began watching videos on their mobile phones. At this moment, a lightning strike hit the tree, severely injuring the three men. They were rushed to the Makhdumpur Referral Hospital by local villagers, where doctors pronounced them dead upon arrival.

Panic at the Hospital

The arrival of the bodies at the hospital triggered chaos among the family members and villagers. The bodies were sent to Tehta police station for post-mortem examination, but the relatives protested. Makhdumpur Circle Officer Ranjit Kumar intervened, assuring the families of compensation and persuading them to allow the post-mortem to be conducted in Jehanabad.

Family’s Grief and Impact of the Incident

The family reported that Pawan Manjhi had recently married on July 13. The newlywed’s wife had not yet had the chance to enjoy her wedding adornments before this tragedy struck. This heartbreaking incident has deeply affected both the family and the entire village, leading to widespread grief and mourning.
