Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir – A fierce gunfight erupted on Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, injuring three Army soldiers and one police officer. The injured personnel were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment, and the encounter is still underway, with two terrorists believed to be trapped.
The security forces launched an operation in Adigam village of Kulgam after receiving intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists. During the house-to-house search, the terrorists opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire between both sides.
The Kashmir Police Zone tweeted, “Encounter has started at Adigam Devsar area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.” Prior to this, on September 15, an exchange of fire occurred between terrorists and security forces in Poonch district.
On September 14, security forces killed a terrorist in Baramulla district during a gunbattle. That encounter followed the deaths of two Army personnel in a separate gunfight in Kishtwar district on September 13. Additionally, an encounter broke out on September 11 in Udhampur district between terrorists and security forces.
Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing sporadic violence as the region holds its first Assembly elections in a decade. The elections are being held in three phases, with two phases completed on September 18 and 25. The third and final phase is scheduled for October 1, and vote counting will take place on October 8.
