In a shocking revelation, it has been reported that Sanjay Roy, the accused in the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at a Kolkata hospital, consumed alcohol and watched violent pornographic material prior to committing the crime.
According to police sources, Roy, a civic volunteer, had a drinking session behind the hospital late at night before the assault. He was found to have a large collection of violent pornographic videos on his mobile phone, suggesting a possible mental illness or perverted behavior.
The tragic incident occurred at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The 31-year-old victim’s body was discovered in a seminar room on Friday morning, with the autopsy revealing severe injuries and bleeding from her private parts, as well as trauma to her abdomen, left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger, and lips.
The attack took place in the Department of Chest Medicine, which had two entry points. On the night of the incident, one entrance was closed, leaving only the back door accessible. CCTV footage captured five to six people entering through this back door around 4 am, though they were identified as having legitimate reasons for being there.
Investigators noted that Roy had no valid reason to be in the department that night. His consumption of violent pornographic content and his actions following the crime led authorities to describe him as having a “perverted mind.” After the assault, Roy attempted to destroy evidence by washing away bloodstains from the scene. CCTV footage showed him leaving the seminar room around 4:45 am.
Roy later went to the barracks of the 4th Battalion, where he was arrested while still under the influence of alcohol. He has been remanded in police custody until August 23 and faces charges under sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of the BNS.
