Kolkata Rape-Murder Accused Married Four Times, 3 Wives Left Due to Misconduct

The recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a government-run hospital in Kolkata have left the city in shock and anger. Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the case, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in this heinous crime. Neighbors of Roy have revealed disturbing details about his past, which paint a picture of a man with a history of troubled relationships.

Sanjay Roy, who was working as a civic volunteer, had been married four times. According to his neighbors, three of his wives left him due to his abusive behavior and misconduct. His fourth wife passed away from cancer last year, leaving him alone. Neighbors have also stated that Roy had a habit of returning home late at night in a drunken state, further contributing to the discord in his marriages.

Despite these allegations, Roy’s mother, Malati Roy, has come to his defense, claiming that her son is innocent and that he confessed to the crime under police pressure. She remains firm in her belief that her son has been wrongfully accused.

The crime occurred at RG Kar Government Hospital, where the body of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was found in a seminar hall. The autopsy report revealed that the victim had suffered severe injuries, with bleeding from her private parts, eyes, mouth, and multiple other areas of her body. The brutality of the crime has led to widespread outrage, especially within the medical community.

Sanjay Roy has been charged under sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of the BNS. He was produced before Sealdah court, where he has been remanded to police custody until August 23.

The incident has sparked protests across Kolkata, with doctors, nursing staff, and medical students demanding justice for the victim and better security for women at hospitals. Protests have been held at various state-run hospitals, including RG Kar Medical College, National Medical College, and Medical College, Kolkata. The protests have extended to district hospitals as well, including Bardhaman Medical College and Bankura Sammilani Medical College.

The medical fraternity continues to call for exemplary punishment for the accused and for enhanced safety measures in hospitals to prevent such tragedies in the future.
