In Karnataka’s Vijayapura district, a conflict erupted between BJP and Congress over 1,500 acres of land claimed by the Karnataka Waqf Board. Farmers in Honavada village reportedly received a notice on October 4 from the Tehsildar stating that their ancestral land would be reassigned to the Waqf Board.

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya met with the farmers, alleging that they were served notices without evidence, declaring their lands as Waqf property. He claimed that Waqf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan had instructed officials to register the lands in favor of the Waqf Board within 15 days.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that poor Muslims are also suffering under the current Waqf Act, while BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal announced plans to challenge the board’s decision in court.

In response, Congress leader and Waqf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan clarified that notices are only issued for Waqf property and accused the BJP of politicizing the matter. Cabinet Minister MB Patil reassured farmers that their land would not be taken if they had proper documentation.
