The Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah has been confirmed as the venue for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Scheduled for November 24 and 25, the auction was initially set to occur in Riyadh but has now been moved to Abady Al Johar Arena due to last-minute changes.
The BCCI confirmed Jeddah as the venue on Tuesday. An internal email revealed the change in location, stating, “The auction will be held at Abady Al Johar Arena, and accommodation will be at Hotel Shangri-la, which is 10 minutes away from the auction venue. Our operations team will assist with visa and logistics requirements.”
A total of 1,574 players have registered for the auction, including 320 capped players, 1,224 uncapped players, and 30 players from Associate Nations.
The IPL auction is one of the most anticipated events in the cricket calendar. It coincides with the first Test match of the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, starting on November 22 in Perth. Disney Star, which holds the broadcasting rights for both events, is keen to avoid direct overlap, and the auction is likely to be held in the afternoon (IST) to sidestep any conflicts.
The BCCI explored other international locations like Dubai, Singapore, and even Vienna, but Saudi Arabia emerged as the host for this highly-watched sporting event.
With the IPL 2025 mega auction approaching, excitement is building as franchises prepare to bid on star players. Among the prominent names are Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh, and Ishan Kishan, each known for their significant impact in T20 cricket.
Intense bidding wars are expected for these players. Teams are strategizing to secure the best talents within their budget, with Pant’s explosive wicketkeeping-batting, Iyer’s leadership potential, and Rahul’s batting consistency being particularly attractive attributes for a fast-paced tournament like the IPL.
