Hamas Leader Saeed Atallah Killed in Israeli Strikes in Lebanon: Report
Hamas leader Saeed Atallah Ali, a member of the al-Qassam Brigades, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a Palestinian refugee camp in Tripoli, Lebanon. Three of his family members were also killed in the attack, according to a Reuters report.
“The Hamas movement mourns the leader of the al-Qassam Brigades, Saeed Atallah Ali, and three of his family members following the bombing of his home in the Palestinian refugee camp in Dawi, Tripoli, northern Lebanon,” reported Hamas media.
With the killing of Saeed Atallah, Israel has eliminated another top Hamas leader in recent weeks, escalating fears that the conflict in the Middle East might erupt into a full-scale war.
Israel has been carrying out continuous strikes in Lebanon, which have claimed over 2,000 lives so far. Furthermore, Israeli forces have begun ground incursions into Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah strongholds.
During airstrikes on Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut, Israel eliminated Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, who had led the group for 32 years. Reports also surfaced that Israel targeted an underground bunker in Lebanon where Hashem Safieddine, seen as Nasrallah’s successor, was holding a meeting with other Hezbollah leaders.
Earlier this year, in July, Israel claimed to have eliminated Mohammed Deif, believed to be the mastermind behind Hamas’ October 7 attacks on Israel. Deif was killed on July 13 in Khan Yunis, Gaza, following an Israeli airstrike.
Additionally, Hamas’ political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, was assassinated in Tehran, Iran, where he was attending the inauguration of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian. Haniyeh, along with his bodyguard, was killed when a missile struck the guesthouse they were staying in. However, Israel has not claimed responsibility for this attack.
Following the death of Hassan Nasrallah, Iran launched nearly 200 missiles at Israel. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in his first Friday sermon in nearly five years, called the attack on Israel “legal and legitimate,” and added that the Jewish nation would “not last long.”
