The Opposition’s INDIA bloc has finalized the seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. According to this agreement, the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) will contest 43 seats. The Congress party will field candidates for 30 seats, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will contest 6 seats. The Left parties have been allotted three seats – Nirsa, Sindri, and Bagodar.
There will be a friendly contest among INDIA bloc candidates for Dhanwar, Chatrapur, and Vishrampur seats. In Dhanwar, the BJP has fielded its senior leader and former MP, Babulal Marandi. JMM General Secretary Vinod Pandey stated, “JMM, Congress, RJD, and CPI-ML are contesting the Jharkhand polls together. Except for three seats, seat-sharing arrangements have been settled across all constituencies.”
The election for the 82-member Jharkhand Assembly will be held in two phases on November 13 and 20, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 23. The JMM’s candidate list includes Chief Minister Hemant Soren running for the Barhet seat, and his wife Kalpana Murmu Soren contesting from Gandey.
Earlier, Chief Minister Soren appealed to the Centre to clear coal dues amounting to ₹1.36 lakh crore, emphasizing the importance of these funds for the state. He urged, “I request the Prime Minister and Home Minister to clear the outstanding amount for the people of Jharkhand.”
