Israel Keeps US in the Dark on Retaliatory Strikes Against Iran
Tensions are escalating between the United States and Israel as the latter has not shared information regarding retaliatory actions following Iran’s ballistic missile attack last week. The U.S. administration is frustrated at being kept in the dark about Israel’s plans.
The Biden administration expressed dissatisfaction with Israel for not notifying them about strikes in Gaza and Lebanon. Israel has vowed to retaliate against Iran, while the U.S. has urged its ally not to target Iranian oil facilities or nuclear sites.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s visit to Washington was postponed, with an Israeli official stating that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu halted Gallant’s departure to the U.S. U.S. officials noted that they lack information on the timing of the strike or potential targets.
Last month, Israel targeted Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike. In retaliation, Iran fired 200 missiles at Israel.
On Sunday, the U.S. sent Army General Erik Kurilla to Israel to warn the Netanyahu regime against striking Iran’s nuclear sites or oil facilities. However, the U.S. has yet to receive assurances from Israel that they will be notified before any expected strike on Iran.
Since the Gaza war, the U.S. has bolstered its presence in the Middle East. In April, U.S. ships and planes intercepted some Iranian missiles and drones aimed at Israel.
