Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Brics Summit in Kazan. This is PM Modi’s second visit to Russia in three months. During the meeting, Putin remarked that ties between Moscow and New Delhi are “specially privileged” and “developing dynamically.”
A light moment occurred when Putin said their relationship is so “tight” that he thought PM Modi would understand his remarks without translation. PM Modi responded, indicating that his recent visit reflects their close coordination and deep friendship. He mentioned the annual summit held in Moscow in July, which strengthened their cooperation across all areas.
India sees Russia as a time-tested friend that has played a significant role in its economic development and security. This bilateral meeting comes three months after PM Modi held an informal meeting with Putin in July, raising eyebrows in the United States and Ukraine, currently engaged in a conflict with Russia.
“I remember our July meeting when we had a good discussion on a range of issues. I am very thankful to you for accepting my invitation to visit Kazan,” Putin further stated.
PM Modi emphasized that the Russia-Ukraine conflict should be resolved peacefully and that India is ready to provide all possible cooperation. “We are in constant touch on the issue of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. We believe that problems should be resolved in a peaceful manner,” PM Modi said.
“We fully support the early return of peace and stability. All our efforts give priority to humanity. India is ready to provide all possible cooperation in times to come,” PM Modi concluded.
