Actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda was hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself. This incident occurred at 4:45 AM on Tuesday when Govinda was cleaning his licensed revolver. According to sources, he was preparing to leave for Kolkata when the firearm slipped from his hand, resulting in a shot to his knee.
He has been admitted to the ICU at CritiCare Hospital in Mumbai. Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, was not in Mumbai at the time of the incident. She stated that Govinda was fine and out of danger. His manager, Shashi Sinha, confirmed that the bullet had been removed and that Govinda’s condition is stable.
Sinha told ANI, “Govinda was getting ready to leave for Kolkata. When he was putting his licensed revolver back in the cupboard, it slipped from his hand, and the gun went off, hitting him in the leg.”
The 90s superstar, known for his comedic roles and dance numbers, made a political comeback earlier this year in March, joining the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena. The 60-year-old actor described his return as the end of a “14-year vanvaas (exile).” While there were speculations about him contesting the Mumbai North-West seat in the Lok Sabha elections, he did not receive a ticket and only campaigned for Shiv Sena.
In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Govinda successfully contested from this seat on a Congress ticket, defeating senior BJP leader and five-time MP Ram Naik by 50,000 votes. His films—Aankhen, where he played a double role, Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Haseena Maan Jayegi—defined the Hindi cinema of the 90s.
