Aakhir Tak – In Depth
On Tuesday, the Election Commission dismissed the allegations made by Congress that varying EVM battery levels across different polling stations in Haryana might have impacted election results. The commission clarified that the EVM battery operates similarly to a calculator’s battery and does not affect the election results in any way. Additionally, the EVM is equipped with a three-layered security system to ensure its functionality and integrity.
Congress had raised concerns over discrepancies in EVM battery levels at some polling stations in Haryana, fearing potential tampering with the election outcome. In response, the Election Commission emphasized that battery levels are unrelated to EVM operations and should not raise concerns of tampering.
Addressing the issue of EVM battery functionality, the Election Commission underscored the robust three-layered security system in place to safeguard electoral integrity. The first layer involves the battery system, which, like a calculator, functions reliably over long periods. The second layer ensures that the battery system functions correctly across polling stations. Lastly, the third layer guarantees the smooth functioning of the battery system throughout the voting process.
The Election Commission reassured voters that the EVMs are completely secure, and their battery system does not compromise the credibility of the elections.
