Congress Stands Firm Behind Siddaramaiah Amid BJP Pressure
In a dramatic turn of events, the Congress party has rallied behind Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah amidst mounting pressure from the BJP. The controversy surrounds the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam, estimated to be worth Rs 4,000 crore.
The Congress leadership has expressed unwavering support for Siddaramaiah and has urged its Karnataka unit to organize state-wide protests against the prosecution’s sanction. The party views the Governor’s approval for Siddaramaiah’s prosecution as a calculated move against a “backward-class Chief Minister.”
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar addressed the media, asserting that the prosecution sanction is legally dubious. “Our Chief Minister will not resign under any circumstances. We will counter this move both legally and politically,” Shivakumar affirmed.
Shivakumar further accused the BJP of using the legal system to target Siddaramaiah. “This is a clear conspiracy aimed at destabilizing the government led by Siddaramaiah, who is serving his second term,” he added.
State Minister Priyank Kharge criticized the BJP’s tactics, accusing them of manipulating the Raj Bhavan to undermine a democratically elected government. “The constitutional head is creating a crisis to please political allies. Despite the central government’s support for this action, we stand by the Constitution,” Kharge declared on Twitter.
Congress MLC BK Hariprasad suggested that the move against Siddaramaiah stems from a political vendetta. He pointed to the BJP’s poor performance in recent elections as a catalyst for the current crisis. “The people have rejected the BJP’s attempts to destabilize democratically elected governments,” Hariprasad stated.
On the other side, the BJP has intensified its demands for Siddaramaiah’s resignation, accusing him of being entangled in corruption. Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra criticized Siddaramaiah for allegedly shielding corrupt practices and demanded an impartial investigation. “The Chief Minister’s inaction and the scale of corruption suggest a deep-seated issue within the Congress government,” Vijayendra claimed.
The BJP has labeled the scandal as a multi-crore affair, estimating the financial stakes to be between Rs 4,000 crore and Rs 5,000 crore, adding to the already charged political atmosphere in Karnataka.
