Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, a veteran leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has announced his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The move, according to Soren, is driven by his desire to protect the tribal identity in the Santhal Pargana region, a cause he believes only the BJP is genuinely committed to.
In a significant shift in Jharkhand’s political landscape, Soren declared his allegiance to the BJP, stating that other political parties have failed to address the issues plaguing the tribal communities, particularly the growing problem of Bangladeshi infiltration. Soren emphasized that these infiltrators have been encroaching on lands belonging to the descendants of tribal heroes who fought against British colonialism, threatening the safety and dignity of the region’s women.
Soren’s decision comes after extensive consultations with the people of the Kolhan region, who opposed his retirement from politics and urged him to continue his fight for tribal rights. He expressed disappointment over the lack of platforms within the JMM to voice his concerns, highlighting the absence of senior leaders due to health issues.
As Soren and his son prepare to officially join the BJP in Ranchi on August 30, Jharkhand’s political dynamics are set to witness a major transformation. This move is likely to bolster the BJP’s position in the state, particularly in the upcoming assembly elections.
