BookMyShow CEO Summoned Over Coldplay Ticket Scandal

BookMyShow CEO Summoned Over Coldplay Ticket Scandal

Mumbai Police have summoned the CEO of BookMyShow, Ashish Hemrajani, along with the company’s technical head today. This action follows an investigation into the alleged black market sale of tickets for the upcoming Coldplay concert in Mumbai. Advocate Amit Vyas lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that the tickets were being sold on the black market.

Coldplay, the renowned British rock band, is set to perform in India after eight years. Their concert in Mumbai is scheduled for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025. Ticket sales through BookMyShow commenced at 12 PM on September 22, but technical glitches caused significant disruptions, resulting in all tickets for the three shows selling out almost immediately.

The tickets were originally priced between Rs 2,500 and Rs 35,000. However, reseller tickets were being offered for prices ranging from Rs 35,000 to Rs 3 lakh or even more on platforms like Viagogo.

In a statement earlier this week, BookMyShow clarified that it is not associated with any ticket-selling or reselling platforms such as Viagogo and Gigsberg. The platform appealed to the public to avoid falling victim to these scams. Any tickets purchased from unauthorized sources come at the consumer’s risk and may potentially be fake.

In India, bulk buying and reselling of tickets are punishable by law. The company has also filed a complaint with the police and committed to fully support the investigation.
