Atishi Takes Oath as Delhi CM, leaves Arvind Kejriwal's chair empty

Atishi will take charge as the Chief Minister of Delhi today, having been sworn in on Saturday. She became the third and youngest woman Chief Minister of Delhi, following Congress leader Sheila Dikshit and BJP’s Sushma Swaraj.

Atishi, an AAP leader, was sworn in as the eighth Chief Minister of Delhi. Alongside her, five cabinet ministers took oath, including four from the previous cabinet and one new face. Her name was proposed after Arvind Kejriwal announced his resignation following an interim bail order in the excise policy case.

Atishi retained the 13 portfolios she held in the Kejriwal government, which include education, revenue, finance, power, and PWD. However, her cabinet saw a new addition, with Mukesh Ahlawat taking oath as a cabinet minister. He was entrusted with the labour, SC and ST, employment, and land and building departments, while Gopal Rai continued with his previous portfolios from the Kejriwal government.

In her first speech as Chief Minister, Atishi praised Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal and urged the people of Delhi to re-elect him as the Chief Minister of Delhi.

“Today, I have taken oath as Chief Minister, but it’s an emotional moment as Arvind Kejriwal is not the CM. Arvind Kejriwal has changed the lives of Delhi’s people. Now, our sole focus must be on making Arvind Kejriwal the Chief Minister of Delhi again,” Atishi stated during her speech.
