Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Arvind Sawant, MP from Shiv Sena (UBT), issued an apology on Saturday following his controversial remark about Shaina NC. He emphasized, “My statement was tweaked. If someone got hurt by my statement, I apologise to them. I have never insulted women in my 55 years of my political career.”
Sawant alleged that this controversy was politically motivated, saying, “I had no such intentions; I didn’t even take anyone’s name.” The incident began when a video clip surfaced on Friday where Sawant allegedly referred to Shaina NC as “imported maal.” Recently, Shaina NC left the BJP and joined the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
In response, Shaina NC filed a complaint at Nagpada police station. Speaking with India Today TV, she said, “Does he see every woman in Mumbadevi as ‘maal’? He shows no respect for women… Whether I take action or not, the public will make him ‘behaal’.”
Earlier on Friday, Sawant mentioned in an interview with India Today TV that Shaina was likely incited to file the complaint. He claimed that the Mahayuti alliance aimed to create a false narrative. Sawant added, “A minister in the party she joined faces a rape case. Last week, a young woman accused a party leader of character assassination and was assaulted.”
