Agra Teacher Gets Scam Call About Daughter’s Sex Racket, Dies of Heart Attack
Accused threatened to leak videos if Rs. 1 lakh wasn’t transferred.
In a tragic incident in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, a woman died from a heart attack after receiving an extortion call. The victim, Malti Verma, received a WhatsApp call on September 30 from a man impersonating a police officer, claiming that her daughter had been arrested in a sex trafficking case.
The caller threatened to leak an obscene video involving her daughter if a payment of Rs. 1 lakh was not made. The woman informed her son about the incident, urging him to transfer the amount immediately to save her daughter from being implicated in the case.
After hearing his mother’s account, Divyanshu, the victim’s son, became suspicious and traced the call back to Pakistan. “After she got the call from the man, she panicked and called me. I found out it was a scam,” Divyanshu said.
Despite reassurance from her son, the incident took a significant toll on her health. After returning from school around 4:00 PM, she began feeling unwell and was taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A video surfaced showing people rushing into the victim’s house to help her after she suffered a heart attack. Police officials stated they are investigating the number from which the call originated and will take action.
Sharing the news of the woman’s death due to “digital arrest,” the Congress party noted that such cases have become common in the country and need to be addressed. “This is not the first incident of ‘digital arrest’ in the country. Such cases are being reported daily,” Congress said.
