Wrestlers’ Protest Politically Motivated: BJP’s Big Claim

The ongoing political drama surrounding the wrestlers’ protest has taken a new turn as BJP MP and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar stated that the protest was politically motivated. His reaction came hours after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Olympians Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia. The meeting, captured in a picture released by Congress, sparked speculation about the wrestlers’ potential entry into politics ahead of the Haryana Assembly election.

Khattar accused the Congress of using athletes for political gain, suggesting that the wrestlers were seeking election tickets. “Our athletes were trapped in a political game during the protests. What started then is now reaching its climax,” Khattar remarked, adding that it is clear the protests were politically driven.

Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia were at the forefront of last year’s protests against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a former BJP MP and chief of the Wrestling Federation of India, who was accused of harassing young wrestlers. The protests were initially seen as a call for justice, but Khattar’s recent comments have cast a shadow over their intentions.

Speculation is rife about Vinesh Phogat’s potential candidacy in the upcoming Haryana elections. Originally from Charkhi Dadri, Phogat may consider running from Julana constituency due to her family ties there. A run from Charkhi Dadri could result in a confrontation with her cousin, Babita Phogat, a possible BJP candidate.

Sources also indicate that Bajrang Punia met Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, further fueling rumors about the wrestlers’ political aspirations.
