Aakhir Tak – In Depth:
Tamil actor Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), passed a resolution opposing the Centre’s proposal for ‘One Nation One Election’ during its executive council meeting on Sunday. The party also demanded the removal of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) from Tamil Nadu. TVK criticized the DMK government for not conducting a caste survey in the state and shifting blame to the Centre.
The TVK targeted the DMK, led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, claiming that its election promises were “filled with lies to gain power.” Vijay held his first political rally in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district in October 2023, eight months after launching his party in February. During the rally, he outlined his party’s ideology and objectives, emphasizing equality, social justice, secularism, promoting Tamil as the administrative language in courts, and eliminating the Governor’s post.
Vijay stated that his party’s approach draws inspiration from both Dravidianism and Tamil nationalism, which he described as “the two eyes of our soil.” Moving beyond a singular identity, TVK promotes broader secular values centered on justice, unity, and societal development. Vijay also announced that his party would contest the 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
