A mysterious case in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area has drawn eerie similarities to the infamous 2018 Burari mass suicide case. Hira Lal, 50, and his four daughters were found dead under suspicious circumstances, raising concerns that occult practices may be involved, similar to the Burari incident.
Hira Lal, who lived in a rented house in Rangpuri under Vasant Kunj Police Station limits, was found dead along with his daughters—Neetu (26), Nikki (24), Neeru (23), and Nidhi (20). According to the police, it is suspected that Hira Lal poisoned his daughters before taking his own life. The bodies of the daughters were found with sacred red and yellow threads (kalawa) tied around their neck, waists, and wrists, prompting an investigation into possible occult practices.
The Delhi Police are now looking into the 2018 Burari case for clues. In that case, 11 family members were found dead, blindfolded and with their mouths taped, in what was later understood to be a ritualistic suicide. Similarly, police suspect that Hira Lal may have followed a similar ritual before committing the crime.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Hira Lal was emotionally and financially distressed after his wife passed away from cancer last year. Since her death, he and his daughters had largely withdrawn from social interactions. CCTV footage shows Hira Lal carrying a box of sweets in a blue plastic bag towards his home, which is believed to have been poisoned and served to his daughters before his death.
The police recovered three packets of Celphos poison, along with five glasses and a spoon containing a suspicious liquid from the house. Further investigations will focus on any potential links between this case and the Burari deaths to determine if this was indeed a case of suicide driven by occult beliefs or merely a result of extreme psychological distress.
