A teacher in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani was arrested for allegedly molesting a 16-year-old student and sending her obscene messages. The incident sparked outrage, leading to a thorough police investigation.
The case came to light when the girl’s parents lodged a complaint at the local police station, alleging that the teacher not only molested their daughter but also sent inappropriate pictures on WhatsApp and Snapchat. The student, a Class 10 girl, detailed her harrowing experience, which led to immediate police action.
The accused was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to Nitin Lohani, Circle Officer of Haldwani, “A teacher at a private school in Haldwani had been sending lewd messages to a student on social media. We have received the complaint and initiated a probe. The accused teacher has been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.”
The incident has drawn criticism from local leaders and activists. Youth Congress leader and social activist Mimansa Arya expressed deep concern over the incident, demanding strict action against the teacher. “The teacher, who is supposed to be a role model, has committed a heinous act. We demand strict action against the teacher to set a precedent so that no educator dares to repeat such behavior in the future,” Arya stated.
Arya also criticized the Uttarakhand government, highlighting the rising crime against women in the state. She pointed out that despite campaigns like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,’ there is an apparent lack of concrete action. She urged authorities to enforce the harshest possible punishment for the perpetrators, stating that crimes against women are increasing, and such acts should not go unpunished.
The case has sparked a broader discussion about the safety of students in educational institutions and the need for stricter monitoring of teachers’ conduct.
