The nurse, who was working at a private hospital in Rudrapur, was confirmed to have been raped and murdered, according to the post-mortem report.

Early Signs and Investigation: The victim was last seen on July 30, captured by CCTV footage returning from work in the Dibdiba area of Bilaspur, a location close to Rudrapur. The following day, her sister lodged a missing person report at the Rudrapur Kotwali police station, sparking an immediate investigation by local authorities.

CCTV footage revealed a suspicious individual trailing the nurse on the night she disappeared. The police, following this critical lead, began a detailed investigation, tracking her mobile phone and canvassing the area for more evidence.

Gruesome Discovery: After days of searching, the police discovered the nurse’s decomposed body in the bushes near Bilaspur on August 8. The post-mortem examination tragically confirmed that she had been raped and then strangled to death.

The Arrest: The investigation took the police across state lines, leading them to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, and later to Haryana and Rajasthan. The primary suspect, identified as Dharmendra, was eventually apprehended in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, along with his wife. They were then brought back to Rudrapur for questioning.

During the interrogation, Dharmendra confessed to the heinous crime. He admitted to spotting the nurse alone on July 30 and, seizing the opportunity, dragged her into the bushes where he attempted to rape her. When she resisted, he brutally slammed her head against the ground and strangled her with a scarf. He then fled the scene, taking her mobile phone and Rs 30,000 in cash.

Police Statement: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjunath TC confirmed the details of the crime, assuring that the accused will face stringent legal action. The local community, shocked and angered by the incident, is demanding justice for the victim.

This heartbreaking case highlights the ongoing issue of violence against women in India, underlining the urgent need for stronger protections and faster legal proceedings to ensure justice is served.
