US Woman Rescued After 40 Days Chained to Tree in Maharashtra

US Woman Found Tied to Tree in Maharashtra Forest After 40 Days

In a shocking incident, a 50-year-old woman from the United States was rescued after being chained to a tree for nearly 40 days in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district. The woman, Lalita Kayi Kumar S, who resides in Tamil Nadu, was found by a local shepherd in Sonurli village on Saturday evening.

Discovery and Rescue Operation

The distressing situation came to light when the shepherd heard cries coming from the forest. Upon investigation, he discovered the woman with her leg chained to a tree. He immediately alerted the police, who quickly initiated a rescue operation.

Medical and Psychological Evaluation

Upon rescue, Lalita Kayi Kumar S was given first aid by the police and transported to a primary healthcare center in Sawantwadi taluka. Following initial treatment, she was transferred to a more advanced medical facility in Oros, Sindhudurg. Medical professionals have reported that the woman appears to be suffering from psychiatric issues and communicated her ordeal through written notes.

A video from the hospital reveals that Kumar S wrote about her harrowing experience, stating that she had been without food for 40 days. Her written message indicated that her husband had chained her in the forest following a domestic dispute.

Ongoing Investigation

Maharashtra Police have not yet registered an FIR in this case, but an investigation is underway. According to police officials, the woman’s weakened state and the recent heavy rains have complicated the situation. She has been unable to provide a full statement due to her condition.

“The woman is in no condition to give a detailed statement. Her physical weakness and the recent weather conditions have made it challenging to ascertain the exact duration she was chained. It appears she left her husband after a quarrel,” a police spokesperson noted.
