Aakhir Tak – In Depth
The United States imposed significant sanctions on nearly 400 entities and individuals, citing their involvement in supporting Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. Among these, 19 Indian companies were identified for allegedly supplying advanced technology and equipment vital to Russia’s war machine. The US Department of the Treasury stressed the importance of disrupting Russia’s ability to procure essential military technologies. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo reiterated that the US and its allies remain committed to cutting off tools that aid Russia’s illegal war activities.
These sanctions aim to prevent Russia from acquiring microelectronics and CNC items, which are critical for its defense operations. The US expressed particular concern over Chinese entities that have been supplying dual-use goods to Russia, aiding its defense production.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs responded by emphasizing that it was aware of the sanctions and highlighted its robust legal framework governing strategic trade. Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India adheres to international non-proliferation norms and that the sanctioned companies were not in violation of Indian law. He added that India will continue working with relevant authorities to inform its companies about applicable export control measures.
