UP 2022 Election Candidate Found to Be Member of Delhi Car Theft Gang
Delhi Police’s Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) has busted a gang involved in luxury car thefts in the capital. Among the six accused arrested is Mohammad Anas, also known as Haji, who contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on a ticket from Chandrashekhar Azad’s Aazad Samaj Party.
Key Accused Mohammad Anas
Mohammad Anas fought the 2022 UP Assembly elections from the Kithore constituency in Meerut. According to the police, Anas would buy stolen cars from Delhi and sell them to the gang leader, Guddu, for double the price. The gang had developed a special mobile app to communicate with each other during their operations.
15 Days of Investigation
After a 15-day operation, police recovered five stolen luxury cars, including a Toyota Fortuner, a Swift Dzire, and three Maruti Brezza SUVs. Police said the gang had stolen around 30 cars from Delhi in the last two months.
How the Gang Was Exposed
The AATS team visited several crime scenes, gathered CCTV footage, and used technical sources to gather key evidence. Apart from Anas, other arrested gang members include Pawan alias Pannu, Mukeem alias Mukki, and Mohammad Fariyad alias Farri, who were previously involved in 12 car theft cases.
During the 2022 UP elections, Mohammad Anas polled a total of 870 votes from the Kithore constituency, which was won by Bahujan Samaj Party’s Kushal Pal Mavi, who secured 31,213 votes.
