Aakhir Tak – In Depth
UK Assures Khalistanis of Protection Amid Alleged Harassment
The UK’s junior minister of State for Security, Dan Jarvis, has assured British Sikhs of protection amidst allegations by some Khalistanis of being “targeted by or on behalf of the Indian government.” This assurance came after reports surfaced of Sikhs being questioned at UK airports regarding their views on India.
UK Government’s Response
Jarvis wrote to the Sikh Federation, an organization with Khalistani affiliations, assuring them of protection. In his letter, Jarvis stated, “We do not tolerate intimidation or threats to life, and through our intelligence agencies and police forces will continue to use all the tools at our disposal to keep people safe.”
Call for Cooperation in Nijjar’s Murder Investigation
Jarvis also urged India to cooperate with Canada in the investigation of the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canada’s allegations of Indian involvement in the murder have been strongly denied by India, which called the accusations “preposterous.”
Reaction from Indian Diplomat
Former Indian Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal criticized Jarvis for implying that the Indian government is targeting Sikhs in the UK. Sibal stated that UK authorities have historically encouraged Khalistani extremists and ISI operatives to threaten India’s sovereignty.
