The survivor, identified as a ragpicker, was brought to the police station, where a case was registered based on her statement. Authorities reviewed the footage to identify Lokesh, leading to his arrest.

The incident has triggered a political backlash, with the opposition Congress party holding the ruling BJP accountable for the deteriorating law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh. State Congress Chief Jitu Patwari also expressed his outrage, stating that Ujjain, known as a sacred city, has been shamed once again. He further criticized the state administration, highlighting the alarming rise in crimes against women, even in broad daylight.
