Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Mahayuti’s Victory and MVA’s Setback
In the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Mahayuti alliance secured a significant win with 230 out of 288 seats. The BJP emerged as the largest party, winning 132 seats, followed by Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena with 57 and Ajit Pawar’s NCP with 41 seats. In contrast, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) managed only 46 seats, with Congress securing 16, the NCP (SP) 10, and Uddhav Sena 20.
Sanjay Raut’s Clarification
Addressing a press conference, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut refuted claims of any internal conflict within the MVA, calling the rumours “baseless.” He emphasized that the Uddhav Sena remains committed to the alliance. “When we succeeded in the general elections, no one suggested we leave the coalition,” Raut noted, reinforcing unity within the opposition alliance.
Chief Ministerial Uncertainty
Raut criticized the Mahayuti for failing to decide on a Chief Minister despite having a clear majority. He questioned why BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, have not finalized a decision. Highlighting the contrast with Shiv Sena’s legacy, Raut remarked, “Bal Thackeray’s future was never decided in Delhi; it was always decided in Mumbai.”
