Donald Trump Accuses ABC News of Violating Debate Agreement with Fact-Checking
Former President Donald Trump has accused ABC News of breaking an agreement made with his campaign by fact-checking him during the recent presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump claims that the agreement was for no fact-checking during the debate, yet ABC News moderators corrected his statements.
Speaking at a campaign rally in New York City, Trump specifically targeted ABC moderator David Muir, who corrected his claims about rising crime rates in the United States. According to Trump, Muir challenged his assertion that crime has significantly increased, saying, “No, no, crime has not gone up.” Trump defended his statistics, calling them accurate.
In his speech, Trump expressed frustration, saying, “We had a deal with ABC that there would be no fact-checks during the debate. But they broke the deal because they are bad people and fake news.” He further accused ABC of favoritism, noting that Harris was not fact-checked even once during the debate, while he was fact-checked five times.
Additionally, Trump criticized co-moderator Linsey Davis for providing the first fact-check of the debate. “I had never heard of her before, and I hope I never hear of her again,” he remarked, questioning her qualifications for moderating such a critical event.
Conservative critics have also taken issue with ABC’s handling of the debate, accusing the network of being biased against Trump while being lenient with Harris. Despite this, Trump has not confirmed whether he will participate in future debates, although he hinted at possibly reconsidering depending on his mood.
ABC News has yet to respond to these allegations of violating the debate agreement. Meanwhile, Trump continues to criticize the network, labeling it “fake news” in public appearances.
