Donald Trump Agrees to Debate Kamala Harris on September 4
Former President Donald Trump has confirmed his participation in a presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris. Scheduled for September 4, this debate will be hosted by Fox News in Pennsylvania. The announcement follows Vice President Harris’s recent clinching of the Democratic nomination after securing the necessary delegate votes.
This upcoming debate marks a significant event as it will be Trump’s first since President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race. Biden’s decision came amidst mounting pressure from Democrats concerned about his age and debate performance, notably from a lackluster June debate with Trump.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump revealed details about the debate. He emphasized that the debate will take place in a “full-arena audience,” contrasting it with the previous CNN-hosted debate, which had no spectators. Trump stated, “I have agreed with Fox News to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4. The debate was previously scheduled against Sleepy Joe Biden on ABC, but has been terminated in that Biden will no longer be a participant… The Fox News debate will be held in the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at a site in an area to be determined.”
Moderators for the debate will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. Trump highlighted that the debate rules will be similar to those of his previous debate with Biden, promising an engaging and lively audience.
Fox News initially extended an invitation for a debate on September 17, but Trump and Harris agreed on an earlier date. Harris has expressed her readiness for the debate. Despite Trump’s initial reluctance to debate Harris, citing her lack of endorsement from prominent figures like former President Barack Obama, he has now committed to the event. Obama and his wife Michelle have since endorsed Harris.
The presidential election is set for November 5, with this debate expected to provide crucial insights into both candidates’ platforms.
