Trump to Appoint Elon Musk to Cabinet if Re-Elected

Donald Trump, the former U.S. President, has expressed his intention to appoint Elon Musk to a Cabinet position or an advisory role if he is re-elected in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. In an interview with Reuters, Trump stated that Musk is a “brilliant guy” and that he would “certainly” consider him for a key role in his administration.

Trump’s admiration for Musk has been evident in their increasingly close relationship. The tech billionaire, who owns Tesla and SpaceX, endorsed Trump for the presidency last month, praising his “instinctual courage” and support for JD Vance as his vice-presidential pick. The two have had friendly interactions, including a discussion on Musk’s platform, X, where they reaffirmed their mutual support.

This isn’t the first time Musk has been linked to a role under Trump’s administration. After Trump’s victory in the 2016 election, Musk was appointed to two of the President’s advisory councils, focusing on environmental and immigration policies. However, Musk resigned in 2017 after Trump decided to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate accord.

Musk has shown interest in contributing to government efficiency, suggesting the creation of a “government efficiency commission” to oversee spending and reduce waste. He has indicated his willingness to serve on such a board if Trump were to be re-elected.

In addition to discussing Musk’s potential role, Trump also mentioned his plans to scrap the $7,500 EV tax credit if he wins the election. He criticized tax credits and incentives, suggesting that they are not beneficial. This move could significantly impact Tesla, Musk’s electric vehicle company, as it benefits from these credits.

Trump’s potential return to the White House could see a shift in policies, including a reversal of Treasury Department rules that currently make it easier for automakers to benefit from the EV tax credit. He emphasized his support for electric cars, gasoline-powered vehicles, hybrids, and other innovations but argued for a “much smaller market” for EVs due to cost and battery range limitations.

With the 2024 election approaching, Trump’s plans and potential collaboration with Elon Musk could play a crucial role in shaping the future of the U.S. administration and its policies on technology, energy, and the economy.
