Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Pakistan-based terror group The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for an attack in Ganderbal, Jammu & Kashmir, which resulted in the death of a doctor and six migrant workers. This marks the first time TRF has targeted both Kashmiris and non-Kashmiris together. According to sources, TRF chief Sheikh Sajjad Gul masterminded the attack, and the local module executed it under his orders.
TRF has been active in Kashmir for the past year and a half, previously targeting Kashmiri Pandits, Sikhs, and non-locals. This attack represents a shift in TRF’s strategy, as they now target both locals and outsiders. The terror group conducted a month-long reconnaissance of the construction site in Sonamarg, where the attack took place. Reports suggest that two to three terrorists were involved in the killings.
A four-member team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will visit the attack site for further investigation, as confirmed by the Union Home Ministry. The NIA is likely to take over the investigation. Initial reports indicate that the doctor, identified as Dr. Shahnawaz, and the migrant workers were part of a team working on the Z-Morh tunnel project in Ganderbal. The terrorists attacked the camp when the workers returned in the evening, leaving five others injured.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack. Gandhi called it a “cowardly” act and expressed condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. Abdullah criticized the attack on “innocent unarmed people,” which occurred just four days after his swearing-in.
This incident follows the recent targeted killing of a migrant worker from Bihar in Shopian in October and the murder of another laborer from Bihar in Anantnag in April this year.
