Tragic Murder of Bihar Girl, 14, After Rejecting Marriage Proposal

A horrifying incident unfolded in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, where a 14-year-old girl was abducted and brutally murdered after she refused a marriage proposal from a local villager. The accused, identified as Sanjay Rai, along with five accomplices, forcibly entered the girl’s home on the night of August 11, 2024. The group arrived on three motorcycles, broke down the gate, and kidnapped the girl at knifepoint. The victim’s mother had previously filed a complaint, stating that Rai had threatened their family three days earlier, demanding that her daughter marry him or face severe consequences.

Discovery of the Body

Tragically, the girl’s lifeless body was found the next morning, August 12, in a nearby pond. Her hands and feet were bound, and her body bore multiple stab wounds, particularly severe injuries to her head, neck, and hands. A blood-stained weapon was also discovered near the scene, adding to the horror of the crime.

Allegations and Investigation

The girl’s family alleged that she had been raped before being killed. However, the post-mortem report did not indicate any injuries to her private parts, as confirmed by Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rakesh Kumar. “The vaginal swab has been sent for further testing, and we are awaiting the results. As of now, both the inquest and post-mortem do not suggest any injuries to her private parts,” SSP Kumar stated.

Ongoing Manhunt

Following the incident, the Muzaffarpur police launched an intensive manhunt to apprehend the accused. The gruesome nature of the crime has drawn widespread condemnation and raised concerns about the safety of women and girls in the region.
