The sacred laddoos offered as prasad at Tirupati temple have been found to contain beef fat and fish oil, as confirmed by a private laboratory report. Andhra Pradesh’s former Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, had earlier accused the YSR Congress (YSRCP) government of using animal fat and substandard ingredients in the making of Tirupati laddoos. Now, a report by NDDB CALF, a private lab specializing in testing animal feed and dairy products, has revealed the presence of foreign fats, including palm oil, fish oil, beef tallow, and lard (derived from pig fat) in the ghee used for these laddoos.
Andhra Pradesh IT Minister, Nara Lokesh, also criticized the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government, stating, “The Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple at Tirumala is our most sacred temple. I am shocked to learn that the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy administration used animal fat instead of ghee in the Tirupati prasadam.”
However, the YSRCP dismissed Naidu’s allegations as “malicious,” asserting that the TDP leader would stoop to any level for political gains. YSRCP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subba Reddy accused Naidu of damaging the sanctity of Tirumala and the faith of millions of Hindus.
In response, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y S Sharmila called for a CBI investigation to determine whether animal fat was indeed used in the laddoos. She stated that Naidu’s accusations hurt the sentiments of millions of Hindus who hold Lord Venkateswara in the highest regard.
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) termed the matter a “serious issue,” demanding punishment for those responsible for using animal fat in the Tirupati laddoos.
BJP MLA T Raja Singh further fueled the controversy by saying, “It has come to light that beef fat and fish oil are being used in the sacred Tirupati Laddu prasadam under the YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh. This is a direct assault on our rich cultural and religious heritage, which cannot and should not be tolerated.”
