The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday amid the controversy over the presence of animal fat in Tirupati laddoos. Lawyers representing the party requested that the court assign a sitting judge or form a committee appointed by the High Court to investigate the claims made by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
The controversy stems from a report by NDDB CALF, a private laboratory that specializes in testing animal feed, milk, and dairy products. This report revealed the presence of foreign fats in the ghee used to make the laddoos offered as prasad at Tirupati temple.
The analysis identified adulterants such as palm oil, fish oil, beef tallow, and lard (derived from pig fat) in the ghee. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy shared these findings publicly, raising concerns over the sanctity of the offerings made at Tirumala temple.
Reddy stated, “The lab reports of samples certify that beef tallow and animal fat – lard, and fish oil were used in the preparation of ghee, and the S value is only 19.7.”
In response, Chief Minister Naidu called for a reassessment of the temple’s food offerings following the report. The High Court has directed the filing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by Wednesday, after which it will hear the case.
