Aakhir Tak – In Depth: A 21-year-old man, Darshan Hegde, was killed after being struck by a Mercedes in Thane, Maharashtra, on the night of October 20. According to police, the incident occurred when Hegde was returning home after purchasing food. The Mercedes, reportedly heading towards the Nashik Highway, hit him and fled the scene.
The police later seized the car; however, the accused driver, identified as Abhijit Nair, remains at large. Authorities are investigating the case and reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the driver. However, it has been alleged that several CCTV cameras in the vicinity were non-functional at the time of the incident.
The accident took place close to the residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Thane. Similar incidents have been reported in high-end areas of Maharashtra recently, where luxury cars have been involved in hit-and-run cases.
In May this year, a couple in Pune died after being hit by a Porsche driven by a 17-year-old boy, the son of a renowned builder in the city. Similarly, a woman was killed in Mumbai after being struck by a BMW, allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, the 24-year-old son of a Shiv Sena leader.
